OpenAI's Pursuit of In-House Chip Production Poses Challenge to Primary Supplier NVIDIA

It looks like OpenAI is making a big move: they're looking to produce their own AI chips. And they've even scoped out potential acquisitions! (which remain unknown to the public, as of now).

Currently, Nvidia dominates the AI chip game. What's more, Sam Altman isn't all too pleased about the shortage.

Operating ChatGPT can be extremely pricey. Think billions of dollars if it ends up scaling to the likes of Google search.

While custom chips sound appealing, it's definitely a risky venture. Companies like Google and Amazon have tried, but only to mixed success. Even if OpenAI dives in, they'd still rely on giants like Nvidia for a while.

Google Assistant Empowered by Bard: A Generative AI Upgrade

Google is introducing Assistant with Bard, a novel personal assistant designed to enhance the naturalness, intuitiveness, and utility of AI conversations. This new offering combines Google's existing voice assistant capabilities with Bard, a robust language model proficient in generating and reasoning with text, voice, and images.

Although Assistant with Bard is currently in its early experimental phase, Google plans to soon roll it out to early testers on both Android and iOS devices. This advanced assistant is poised to assist users with an array of tasks, including trip planning, email retrieval, list creation, and social media posting. Users will have the flexibility to interact with Assistant with Bard via text, voice, or images, enabling the assistant to perform actions such as flight booking, grocery ordering, or message sending on their behalf.

Google emphasizes the integration of Assistant with Bard with its existing services, such as Gmail and Docs, streamlining users' ability to manage crucial aspects of their lives. Moreover, the assistant will demonstrate contextual awareness, leveraging input from Android device sensors like the camera, voice recognition, and presence detection to grasp user intent and deliver pertinent responses.

Privacy Concerns Spark UK Investigation into Snap's 'My AI'.

Snap's "My AI" chatbot has come under scrutiny by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), but not for positive reasons. Concerns have been raised regarding children's privacy issues, with the watchdog suggesting that Snap may not have adequately assessed privacy risks for users aged 13 to 17 before launching the chatbot.

Snap maintains that they conducted thorough privacy assessments, but user reports seem to contradict these claims. Additionally, the chatbot has been accused of providing users with questionable advice on occasion.

This incident isn't the first time that a chatbot has encountered privacy issues with European watchdogs; Replika and ChatGPT have faced similar concerns.

The ongoing scrutiny of chatbots highlights the growing importance of privacy as AI technology continues to evolve.
